I Hope Those Are Not Swarm Cells!

Inspection of the main hive, over ten days after the split. The queen sure has been busy. The population was very strong. Some of the frames were a bit of a mess. I inserted some new black plastic frames with wood trim. Most was drawn out well, but some frames weren't. I did not not scrape them down during the inspection because I hadn't located the queen. My luck would be squashing her accidentally, so I held off.

And yes, those were swarm cells, as I soon found out!

Here was my plan:

Thursday - examine split hive
Friday - examine main hive
Saturday - split main hive again as a result of my Thursday examination and move over some eggs and brood to the queenless colony. (But after my morning Air Search and Rescue Exercise. What could possibly go wrong?)

What transpired:

Thursday - examine split hive
Friday - examine main hive
Saturday - observe swarm leaving as I walked in the door. Seems like I wasn't quite done "Search and Rescue" for the day, after all.
