Right Stack Colonies Papered (June 04, 2014)

The colonies stacked on the right were introduced to each other over a period of days. Two queen colonies can thrive together, especially  in advance of a honey flow; the abundance of nectar reduces competitive stress and the potential for robbing. The colonies are separated by at least one dadant with queen excluders at the top and bottom to prevent roaming of the queens, but I always paper the queen excluders to delay the mingling of the colonies in the shared boxes, much in the same manner as combining colonies.
